Sandia National Laboratories:

My current line of research consists of studying the effects of human cognition on dynamic interfaces and hypertext structures in an effort to help bridge the gap between human cognition and computer interfaces.

Interface Design and Usability Experience:

For over four years I have been employed as a researcher by the Software Usability Research Laboratory (SURL), as well as being the web designer and usability evaluator by the Department of Psychology at Wichita State University. As a member of the Software Usability Research Laboratory, I have participated in several important projects:

Cessna Aircraft™ Intranet Expert Review and Usability Test

This project involved both an expert review and a usability test of the Cessna Intranet to determine its general usability, as well as provide recommendations as to how certain usability problems could be fixed. My function was to conduct the expert review as well as assist in the usability test of the company-wide Intranet and give recommendations and guidelines for its redesign.

McGraw-Hill/CTB™

This project involved the heuristic evaluation of an online, computer-based testing interface, as well as assessing the computer-based testing procedure to paper-based ones, and devising and evaluating the testing protocol for a future, larger study. This study involved 150 students in the 5th through 12th grade. My function was to assist in the overseeing of the testing, as well as co-writing the evaluation and recommendation reports.

Perspective Technology™ Website Evaluation

This project involved performing a usability test of Perspective Technology’s™ website in order to determine its general usability, as well as provide recommendations as to how certain usability problems could be fixed. My function was to user-test participants, as well as co-writing the evaluation and recommendation report.

This project involved performing a usability test of the ValueEngine.com™ website in order to determine its general usability, as well as provide recommendations as to how certain usability problems could be fixed. My function was to user-test participants, as well as co-writing the evaluation and recommendation report.

Self Help Network of Kansas™ Website Design and Evaluation

This project involved the design, creation, and usability testing of a new website that greatly broadened and eventually replaced the existing website. My function was to design the structure and navigational elements of the website using various human factors techniques, such as affinity diagramming.

Kansas Department of Transportation Drinking and Driving Program™ Website Design and Evaluation

This project involved the design and creation of a new website for the Kansas Department of Transportation. My function was to design and user-test the website.

Wichita State University Library Search Interface Evaluation

This project involved a usability test of the WSU Library search interface in order to determine its general usability, as well as provide recommendations as to how certain usability problems could be fixed. My function was to user-test participants, as well as co-writing the evaluation and recommendation report.
